First aid courses for parents
Being versed in first aid can literally mean the difference between life and death.
Educational play experts Claphandies run first aid courses for parents and founder Liza Crotty says choking and cot death are two of the most common fears parents have before they attend these courses.
"Most parents just want to arm themselves with potentially life- saving skills, and feel confident they can cope in an emergency with their child," she explains.
The two key areas covered on a Claphandies first aid course are choking and CPR. You'll learn how to treat a baby, toddler and child with the age- appropriate life- saving manoeuvres if they are choking, while CPR is the most vital skill you can have.
You'll learn how to perform the different methods of CPR on a baby, toddler/ child and adult. Groups are small so everyone gets the essential practice time.
Other core subjects include temperature management, burns and scalds, poisons and meningitis.
