'The English paper will be a tricky start for me'

Parth Gautam (15) from Firhouse goes to Sandford Park Boys School and begins his Junior Cert today.
It’s a tricky start for me today as the two English papers are those I feel least confident about.
With English, there is so much writing involved and I am worried that my hand will cramp. I also find the creative writing section less straightforward.
My strengths are probably languages. I study French, Latin, Irish and Spanish.
I’m feeling more confident about these as about a month ago we had our oral exams in all the languages except Latin.
I think they went pretty well so at least I have part of them done and some marks banked.
History should also be okay. I think it’s a lot easier to revise when you have an interest in the subject and I love learning about the past, and World War Two in particular.
I did a little bit of revision at the end of last year but I started revising properly over the Christmas period. What has suited me best, when revising, is to make a list of the subjects I’m going to tackle on a particular night. I’ll maybe decide to do a past paper English question or a few chapters of science or geography.
It’s hard to focus on one subject for the whole evening. I would definitely do a couple, so I don’t lose concentration. It’s really important for me to have a distraction from revision just in case I get a bit stressed.
In school, I play rugby and badminton and then I play golf as a hobby at weekends.
I love the piano and I’m just waiting for the results of my Grade Seven that I did last Friday.
When I want to chill out, I might listen to some music. I really like acts like Greenday, U2 or Eminem.
Thoughts of the holidays are really helping to keep me motivated.
My school’s putting on a production of West Side Story in November, so we’ll be having dance rehearsals throughout the summer which will be fun.
I’ll also be going to St Vincent’s Hospital so I can shadow a doctor for a week.
Medicine is something I am really drawn towards, so I’m hoping this will give me a better idea of what the job’s like.
