Students to learn exam appeals results

HUNDREDS of Leaving Certificate students can expect new college offers this week after successfully appealing their results in this year's exams.
The outcome of the appeals by 5,812 of the 54,481 Leaving Cert candidates is made known to students today by the State Examination Commission.
The candidates appealed against 10,142 grades in individual subjects, resulting in 1,931 upgrades, while four results were downgraded. The figures are broadly in line with previous years.
For many students, a better grade, or grades, provides enough CAO points to get an offer they should have received in August or September.
On the basis of the appeals outcomes, the CAO is processing new offers for the current year, which should arrive in post on Friday. They will also be on the CAO website.
Candidates dissatisfied with the outcome of their appeal have recourse to the Independent Appeals Scrutineers.
