Students are 'out of control', say angry residents living near university

ANGRY residents near one of Ireland's largest universities have vowed to "take back the streets" from unruly students.
Cork residents near University College Cork (UCC) and Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) have said they have had enough and say that students are out of control.
The residents met last week to come up with a strategy to deal with the student problems. One of the proposals discussed was the possibility of a march on the gates of UCC.
The meeting, which was attended by around 100 people, discussed late-night disturbances, drunken behaviour, vandalism, litter and parking problems. Cork University Residents Forum is now tackling the problem.
UCC accommodation officer Maura O'Neill said that UCC had disciplined 28 students and a formal written complaints procedure appeared to be working.
Residents want a nominal enrolment levy on students to pay for security.
