RADA - nursery to the stars

The new Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art will be closely modelled on RADA, the London stage school whose alumni list reads like a Who's Who of theatre, film and TV .

RADA has turned out classical actors of the calibre of Kenneth Branagh and John Gielgud. It has also produced its fair share of soap stars including Joan Collins, who played Alexis Carrington in Dynasty, and Steve McFadden, the villain Phil Mitchell in EastEnders.

With a week that includes 38 hours of classes and rehearsals, training at RADA is highly intensive.

As one former principal said of the training, they need to be ready to do anything from a little part in a soap to playing Hamlet.
