Quinn to tackle violence in class

EDUCATION Minister Ruairi Quinn will set up a group to oversee the implementation of a €12m plan to combat violent behaviour by pupils.

The National Council for Special Education yesterday presented a document on how best to deal with the problem, which it says costs €200m a year in additional teaching and care support costs.

Form delays cost HSE West €15.1m

THE HSE West has been waiting for €15.1m from private health companies for more than a year as a result of consultants not signing insurance forms.

HSE assistant national director for finance Liam Minihan said one consultant had yet to sign forms that would release €496,000.

Burner passed tests 48 times

THE Environmental Protection Agency visited the Carranstown incinerator in Co Meath 48 times and found no problems with it, a Bord Pleanala hearing has been told. Indaver Ireland wants to increase the capacity of the plant from 200,000 to 220,000 tonnes a year.
