Even at this stage of the college application season, applicants should be aware that changes can take place in the courses available to them.

CAO's website contains an 'Important Changes' list, which shows: new courses that are not listed in the CAO handbook but which may be applied to in 2013; courses that do appear in the 2013 CAO handbook but have been cancelled; and miscellaneous changes to courses on offer, which could include, for example, a change in title, or a new option in the degree.

One change in the miscellaneous list relates to the course code for DCU's arts joint honours degree, DC250.

The Important Changes list gives no less than 26 separate course codes for combinations of the eight subjects available in the degree.

DCU's own 'Alert List' signals another change of interest to applicants to its two music degree courses, DC211 BA in music performance and DC212 BA in Composition, which have been offered by the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) in association with DCU.

The courses have not been cancelled and are still available, but DCU is no longer the accrediting university.

These programmes will now be accredited by Trinity College, Dublin ( TCD), because RIAM has become an associated college of Trinity.

Students attending the RIAM for these two courses will also be registered students of TCD.

Applications for the courses will not be made through the CAO in 2013, but should be made directly to the Royal Irish Academy of Music, 36-38 Westland Row, Dublin 2, with a €70 application fee.

The application form may be downloaded online.

The closing date for applications is February 1.

Applicants must satisfy TCD's minimum entry requirements, and must sit a written paper and take aural tests.
