Emmet elevates to new level at the Hub

WebElevate is a new industry-led programme based in Dublin's hi-tech Digital Hub.
It's focused on providing jobseekers with skills for employment in the Digital Media industry -- in areas like Web Design, Mobile App Development and Web Video. WebElevate builds on last year's successful WebActivate programme.
Forty-five year-old Emmet O'Connell -- a graduate of WebActivate -- has since set up his own successful business, helping SMEs within the architectural sector develop an online presence:
"WebActivate came along at exactly the right time. I'd already come to the conclusion that it was time to diversify -- to look outside the box and develop new skills.
I'd spent 20 years working in architecture -- and like many in my field, I was made redundant through the recession.
The ethos of the WebActivate programme was fantastic, involving a lot of talented people.
When I got down to developing my own company, there was a whole body of knowledge to draw from. I developed the confidence to start-up on my own -- knowing that I had all this back-up there if needed.
It's now at the point where I'm working 60 hours a week on indexd.ie. I've had great feedback so far from clients - and the way things are going, it won't be long at all before I can start hiring my own staff!"
