Dear Minister, don't take our teacher away

Children at Newtown Upper National School were so gutted at losing their teacher that they wrote to the Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald.
As a result of the Budget cuts affecting small schools, teacher Sarah Jane Dowling will have to leave at the end of the year. Newtown Upper will become a two-teacher school.
Among the children writing to Minister Fitzgerald was sixth-class pupil Liam Harris:
"I am in sixth class and Miss Dowling is our teacher. Miss Dowling is a good teacher and she is part of the school. If you take her away we will all be squashed up.''
Frances Fitzgerald replied personally to the batch of letters, signing her letter "Frances", and promised to bring the comments of the pupils to the attention of Ruairi Quinn.
