Almost 400 schools nationwide to receive funding for repair works

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn today announced €36m in funding for 386 schools under the Summer Works Scheme 2014 in the gas, electrical and mechanical categories.

ALMOST 400 schools are getting money to carry out repair and improvement works over the summer.

For the first time in three years funding is being made available for small and medium-scale jobs, from windows, roofs and toilets to gas and electrics.

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn today announced €36m in funding for 386 schools under the Summer Works Scheme 2014 in the gas, electrical and mechanical categories.

He said a second round of funding would be announced in coming weeks to cover other projects.

The works will be carried out in schools over the summer months, when the pupils are on holidays, so the disruption to schooling will be kept to a minimum.

The Summer Works Scheme was suspended for a number of years because of financial constraints..
