President Michael D Higgins celebrated remarkable contributions made by third-level students in their college, community and country at the annual Student Achievement Awards Ireland.

The awards, organised by the Union of Students Ireland (USI), recognise the dedication of students to volunteering and campaigning, political activism, as well as the creative skills of individuals in 25 categories.

President Higgins, pictured, was joined by USI president Joe O'Connor to present the Ethics Award to Garron Clarke, of Dublin City University (DCU), at the event held in Dublin Castle. Among the other winners was Aisling Curtis, writer with Trinity College Dublin newspaper 'The University Times', who was selected as Journalist of the Year by Katherine Donnelly, Education Editor, Irish Independent.
