1,000 extra resource teachers in schools next year

Almost 1,000 extra resource teachers will be allocated to primary and second-level schools next year.
Some 617 new posts will be onstream in September, bringing the total number of resource teachers to 5,902, the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) has announced.
It will rise further to 6,225 when another 323 posts are made available from October to respond to emerging needs.
The September 2014 figure represents a 12pc increase on last September, there were 5,285 resource teaching posts,. This rose to 5,721 during the school year, as new cases of need emerged.
