It's been a whole year since Dublin Zoo welcomed three new elephant calves - and you are invited to celebrate their milestone birthday this weekend.
This Saturday August 22nd and Sunday August 23rd, Dublin Zoo and The Natural Confectionery Company are hosting a triple birthday celebration for Asian elephant calves Kavi, Ashoka and Samiya to mark their first birthday.
The trio were welcomed to the Kaziranga Forest Trail last summer, and they continue to thrive.
Kavi (male), who turned one on July 17th, is described as a "brave little bull" who now weighs an astonishing 700kg - that's the weight of a fully grown dairy cow.
Ashoka (male), who turned one of August 19th, weights 500kg - a big leap from the 70kg he weighed at birth. While he used to be shy, he is reportedly getting braver and bolder every day.
Meanwhile, their little sister Samiya is a "dainty" 450kg. Samiya enjoys spending time with her mother and 8-year-old sister Asha, and also loves to chase wild birds.
"All the calves are still drinking from their mothers and will do until they reach about five years of age or another calf is born," a spokesperson from the Dublin Zoo care team said.
"Their appetite is increasing and they have begun to enjoy solids like hay and fruit. Their favourite foods include bananas and apples. The calves all love to pile on top of one another to sleep."
"They sleep for an average of six hours a night and take regular naps during the day, particularly on hot days when they tire themselves out playing with the water."
On these hot days, they can be found swimming, rolling around in the sand, and wrestling.
As sponsors of the Kaziranga Forest Trail, The Natural Confectionery Company is hosting a triple birthday celebration for the three Asian elephant calves this weekend.
From 11am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, The Natural Confectionery Company will transform the Zoo into an 'elephantastic' birthday bash for the first birthday celebrations this weekend with music, face-painting, fun and games and a whole host of fun-filled family activities.
