'Many places offer a special online rate'

Making the most of it

Spokesmum Laura Erskine for mummypages.ie has some great ideas to cut down on the costs of family fun on days out.

"Make a list of places you would like to visit using some of the activity guides on parenting websites. Early bookings for family shows mean that you can avail of matinee performances, while cinemas offer discounted tickets in the morning. Many places offer a special online rate - Tayto Park, for example, gives a discount of €2 per ticket.

"Pick up tourist flyers from the hotel foyers which often give a discount on entrance, (eg. two-for-one entry to Sea Life aquarium in Bray, Co Wicklow or reduced admission to the Wax Museum in Dublin and National Stud in Co Kildare).

"Daily deal websites such as Groupon and GrabOne allow you to set preferences for offers based on family interests. Just be sure to read the small print as these deals often offer such good value on prepaid vouchers that they must be used within a short time frame."
