If you're looking for a simple but generous way to help homeless people this Christmas, here it is.

Christmas is just six weeks away, and while it's easy to get wrapped up in buying presents for friends and family and getting the house ready, it's important to remember that it's not everyone's favourite time of year.

Luas have teamed up with Inner City Helping Homeless for the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal 2016, with the aim of collecting over 5,000 shoe boxes.

The shoe boxes will be given directly to people on the streets at night time and through the numerous shelters across Dublin City.

The number of homeless families in Ireland has increased, with almost 1,000 homeless families in Dublin alone.

If you want to get involved, drop your shoe box to the Connolly Luas stop on Thursday 8th of December between 7am and 7pm.

Suggested contents for the boxes include; socks, underwear, tooth paste and brush, sweets and other hygiene products. Read the full list of suggested products and products that cannot be in the boxes on www.luas.ie/helpfillatram.
