Children across Ireland look set to use the Force this Christmas morning as sales of 'Star Wars' toys outstrip 'Frozen' this year.

In an epic battle between the two Disney juggernauts, toy stores here have reported that Kylo Ren has the upper hand on Princess Elsa as 'The Force Awakens' storms into cinemas nationwide tomorrow.

"'Star Wars' has performed very well for us and we definitely expect to see demand peak in the next week or so," said Rob Guckian of Smyths Toys. "Some of the most popular products this Christmas include classics like the Millennium Falcon Flying Drone (€145) and the AT-AT Remote Control Vehicle (€135), as well as products from the new movie including the Interactive Kylo Ren figure (€110)."

Although Santa won't have to go to a galaxy far, far away for the toys, widely available on the high street, bosses urged mums and dads helping the man in the red suit to act fast to avoid disappointment on December 25.

"The most popular 'Star Wars' toys are lightsabers, the new remote-controlled Droid BB-8 (pictured) and Lego 'Star Wars'," Argos toy buyer Neil Bright said. "Argos have been selling three 'Star Wars' products a minute since the start of December. Star Wars Lego is popular this Christmas too."
