Fitness and health have never been more popular in Ireland. We have embraced being active and all of the benefits that go along with it and I think that this Christmas, more than ever before, Santa's little helpers will be inundated with requests for fitness-related products to fill stockings and put under the Christmas tree.
This week, I thought I would bring you a list of some of the things that I would recommend for the fitness lover in your life
Tracking your steps, distance and overall activity during the day can be a fantastic way to stay focused and to move more during the day too. There are lots on the market, but from my experience, the new FitBit watches are the best, especially when combined with their Aura weighing scales which will measure your body fat as well as your weight, and work with the app on your phone to help get you stay motivated.
I have to admit, clothes aren't really my thing, but I love sportswear, especially the cold gear for the winter months. I train in all weathers and have tried most clothing available out there. The base layers from Columbia seem to be the warmest; they look great and have worn well. They also come in funky colours, which is always good in my book.
3. A session with a personal trainer or strength and conditioning coach
Whatever sport or type of training your partner or friend is into, you could get them a session with an expert in that field. Great for advice, guidance and keeping motivation levels up, this can make a really thoughtful present
These have been around for several years now and the new versions are better than ever; they clip onto any piece of equipment and will record high-quality video and photographs too. They are waterproof and shockproof also, making it the perfect accessory for any sport lover.
5. A race entry and weekend away
Races are simple yet truly effective goals. Booking a race and making a weekend away out of it is a great way to see the world, get fit and have fun while doing it. www.activeeurope.com is a great website for all of the races happening in Europe.
6. The Audi Driving Experience
This is one for the car lover. Fly to one of the most famous racing circuits in the world ,have tuition with Le Mans racing drivers and drive the Audi R8, Rs4 and Rs6 supercars around the track for the day. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip that I was lucky enough to experience!
7. Wyldsson nuts
Nuts and nut products are incredibly popular at the minute, so why not get some of the best nut products on the market for your health-conscious love one? From chopped nuts to granola and nut butters, the guys at Wyldsson are the best!
8. A course at the Irish Strength Institute
The ISI is a market leader in fitness seminars and workshops for those in the industry and those with an interest in training. They have day and weekend courses several times a year, and having been to some of them, I think they would make a fantastic present.
9. A subscription to Irish Runner Magazine
Frank Greally and the team at Irish Runner Magazine have their finger on the pulse of the running scene in Ireland and the magazine has some great features as well as the race listings for what's happening and where.
10. Cara Mara seaweed bath kits
Quite a cool present this one, Cara Mara have seaweed bath kits, so that you can enjoy your own seaweed bath, soaking up the oils and benefits at home. A seriously nice way to recover after a hard exercise session.
11. An adventure day at Carlingford Adventure centre
Less than an hour from Dublin, here you will be able to try a whole range of different sports and activities that you have always wanted to. It's a stunning location with more sports than you could fit into a week and can be a great way to find a new hobby in the new year.
12. Gift vouchers
Not one for Brown Thomas, but why not get a gift voucher for something like a massage, sports store, sports psychologist, running specialist or a bike, fit for the cyclist in your life? They can be great presents and really beneficial too.
13. Chi Running clinic
These are fantastic clinics for those who run, offering advice and tips on how to run safer and more efficiently, brought to you by former long-distance runner Catherina McKiernan.
