FROM handcrafted cards and scented soaps for under a fiver to a 1920s-style hat for €40, households are being encouraged to buy Irish this Christmas.
If every household in the country spends at least €10 on Irish crafts this December, it will bring a €14m boost to the economy.
The Crafts Council of Ireland has appealed to shoppers to switch some of their Christmas spend to Irish handmade gifts to help create jobs.
The National Crafts and Design Fair takes place in the RDS Main Hall in Dublin from Wednesday to Sunday.
Always a big draw for Christmas shoppers, it features the work of 500 designers, artists, and craftspeople.
