Singers are needed to take part in Ireland’s largest choir for one night as they get set to break the world record for the largest group of Christmas Carol singers.

Organisers are attempting to beat the current record set in Korea in 2010 which involved 15,111 singers.

A massive 13,614 people have bought tickets to break the record in Dublin so far.

Miriam O’Callaghan will host the magical evening of carols which aims to break the Guinness World Record for the most carol singers in one area.

'Stars, Choirs & Carols' will see stars Louis Walsh, Lisa Hannigan, The Celtic Tenors and Irish singer Celine Byrne join Tallaght Choral Society, the Army School of Music and more as festive notes hit the air.

As well as a night of fun and festive tunes, funds will also be raised for critically-ill children and charities such as Cliona’s Foundation which gives much-needed financial assistance to critically-ill children and The Sanctuary.

Speaking about the event, host Miriam O’Callaghan said, ''Stars, Choirs and Carols promises to be an unforgettable festive evening of carols and fun while at the same time helping to support the work of two unique charities.''

''Cliona’s Foundation which gives a financial lifeline to families with a critically ill child and the Sanctuary which brings peace, calm and hope to the lives of thousands of people including the most vulnerable young people in our society,'' she said.

The event is the brainchild of Richard Mulcahy who appeared on RTE’s Secret Millionaire in 2012.

''This is a perfect ending to the Year of The Gathering. We are a nation of storytellers and songwriters. No other medium brings hope and raises the spirits like the power of song. I hope people will partake in this worthy event,” he said.

Thousands of voices are needed so become part of a world-breaking record and register your choir on www.starschoirsandcarols.ie.

The event will be streamed live on independent.ie for those interested in watching the fundraising event.

The magical night is Thursday, December 19 in Croke Park and tickets can be purchased on www.tickets.ie for €15 or call 1800 901090 for more information.
