Adults expect to have a baby in their arms and the keys to their own property by the age of thirty, according to a new study that analysed the age we expect to meet certain milestones in life.
International researchers compiled a list of life’s most important milestones and pipped them against the experiences and regrets of more than 2,000 adults between the ages of 16 and 65 around the world.
The study revealed that the dream of many is to have the first baby by the age of 28 after being married for one year.
The research also found that the majority hope to have passed their driving test by the age of 20, move in with a partner by 25 and own their first flat by the age of 27.
The study conducted by Amigo Loans found that our anxiety to hit certain milestones increases as we approach 30, particularly when it comes to professional progress as by then we expect to be at least earning the country’s average wage.
While the ambitions of the second decade are mostly personal, in our thirties we expect to establish ourselves in the workplace and expect to become a manager at 34. The average person begins to think about owning their own business at the age of 35 and also considers moving into their second house by 36.
A spokeswoman for Amigo Loans, which commissioned the study, said: “It's normal to want to achieve certain things by certain ages and it's good to be ambitious."
The survey also found that many people think there is more of a pressure on this generation to hit these milestones at specific times than in the past.
