Young shooting victim proposes to girlfriend
A YOUNG man who was shot twice and given just hours to live by doctors has recovered sufficiently to propose to his girlfriend at her 21st birthday party.
Daniel Phillips (20), right, jumped out of a box at Sarah Power's birthday party in a Limerick hotel and successfully asked her to marry him.
Daniel, from Crecora Avenue, Ballinacurra-Weston, Limerick was shot in the head and chest as he sat in a car in the St John's Square area of the city last May.
He underwent emergency surgery at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital and was later transferred to University Hospital Cork and put on life support.
His stepmother, Sonya Ryan, said they were given no hope that he would live. The family brought a faith-healer to see him.
"I still believe that that's what brought him around. It's a miracle," said Sonya.
A man was charged with attempted murder following the shooting.
