A man has been arrested after a woman in her twenties was abducted from her home yesterday evening.

The young mother-of-four was "forcibly removed" from her home by a man shortly after 4pm, Gardai told Independent.ie.

Her children and three other youngsters were in the house, in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, at the time.

They were not harmed during the incident.

Gardai set up a major search operation and used community alert projects to send text messages to hundreds of homes in the surrounding rural areas.

Their appeal focused on tracing the car that was used in the abduction.

The woman was safely located just after 7am this morning.

A man in his mid-twenties has since been arrested and is being detained at Granard Garda Station for questioning.

Gardai are continuing investigations into the incident today.
