Young men die in road crashes

TWO young men were killed in road collisions over the weekend, writes Paul Melia.

Gardai are investigating the crashes in Leitrim and Tipperary which also left two people with minor injuries.

A 20-year old man died early yesterday in a single-car crash. His car went out of control and hit a wall at Corraneary, Aughavas, Co Leitrim, at 2.10am.

The man's name has not been released. A 21-year old male passenger travelling with him was taken to Sligo Hospital.

Witnesses are asked to contact Carrick-on-Shannon gardai at 071 9650510.

The first collision happened at 12.30am on Saturday when a 19-year-old man died after the car he was driving collided with a van at Glasdrum, Cappawhite, Co Tipperary. The van driver was unharmed, and a passenger in the car was taken to hospital.

Witnesses should contact gardai on 062 80670.
