Young man killed in crash minutes from his home

A RURAL community is in mourning after the death of a young man in a road accident close to his home, writes Grainne Cunningham.

Kevin Skelly, who was in his 30s and from Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, was fatally injured when his motorcycle collided with a tractor at 11.15am yesterday on the R154 at Cavancoulter, just a few minutes' drive from his home.

Gardai ask witnesses to contact Cavan garda station on 049-4368800, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Meanwhile, gardai are working with Interpol to confirm the identity of a pedestrian who died in a collision with a motorbike in Co Galway.

The man, who is believed to be Romanian, died in the accident just before 10pm on Friday when he was walking on the Pier Road at Rossaveal.
