Young man killed in car crash may have been undiscovered in drain for a number of hours

A YOUNG man has died in a single car accident, after the car he was driving crashed and ended up in a drain.

Gardaí are investigating the incident which occurred at Kishawanny, Carbury, County Kildare at some stage on Sunday.

It is not yet clear when the crash occurred, with gardai initially looking at a period between the hours of 12 midnight on Saturday night and 1.50pm on Sunday afternoon.

The car involved was discovered in a drain off the R402, Carbury - Edenderry Road at the later time.

The young man - who was aged 18 - was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant.

His body was taken to Naas General Hospital. A post mortem is to be arranged.

The road was closed for a period of time to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, particularly those who travelled the R402 between Carbury and Edenderry during the hours of 12 midnight and 2pm on 21st February 2016 to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 6667800, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
