A 20-year-old man was killed when his motorbike collided with a tractor on a rural road in Co Meath today.

Gardai in Athboy are investigating the two-vehicle accident, which  happened at Tullaghanstown, Athboy, about 3.30pm.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his body taken to Navan Hospital. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours to allow an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to contact Athboy Garda Station on 046 9432201, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Meanwhile, three people were hurt in a road accident in Offaly this evening amid reports a car travelled in the wrong direction on the Dublin to Galway motorway.

Up to four cars were involved in the collision, which closed the westbound lane of the M6 between J4 Tyrellspass and J5 Tullamore. Three people were hospitalised but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
