Young driver killed in single-vehicle accident

A YOUNG man was killed in a single-vehicle accident over the weekend.

Mike Russell (24), from Ballylanders, Co Limerick, died in the early hours of yesterday morning after the car he was driving lost control and crashed on the outskirts of Galbally, Co Limerick.

The accident happened at 2.30am along a rural road.

Mike's nephew, David (18), who was also travelling in the car was taken by emergency workers to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where his injuries are described as non life-threatening. He is continuing to recover.

It is understood that the victim had been socialising with friends in Ballylanders throughout Saturday evening and was making his way to a party in Tipperary town when the accident occurred.

Officers from Bruff garda station are investigating and are attempting to establish the cause of the single-vehicle incident.
