Young driver killed close to where cousin lost life

A YOUNG man killed in a traffic accident yesterday died just 100 yards from where his cousin was killed 20 years ago, writes Stephen Maguire.

The victim, named locally as Shane McMonagle (25), pictured right, died when his car struck a telegraph post at about 4.25am at Carnagarve, just outside Moville in Co Donegal.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Shane's cousin Mark McMonagle was killed not far from the scene two decades ago. He had been out walking when he was struck by a car.

This is just dreadful news for the McMonagle family," said one local yesterday.

"Everyone is just in deep shock. Shane was a grand fella and his death is a dreadful reminder of the death of his cousin Martin.

"Our prayers and sympathies are with his entire family circle today."
