Emergency services were forced to cut a young child out of a vehicle following a horrific crash in Co Kildare last night.

Two vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident shortly before 8pm on the Athy to Booleigh Road.

Kildare Fire Department had to cut through the doors of the car due to the extensive damage caused as a result of the crash. No one required hospital treatment.

Meanwhile, the only survivor of last year's Athy car accident which killed four friends posted an emotional tribute on Facebook on the first anniversary of the tragedy.

Chermaine Carroll, Niamh Doyle, Gemma Nolan and Ashling Middleton were all killed in the collision. Survivor Dayna Kearney (21) from Carlow, wrote how a great day had turned to a horrific and tragic night.

"I am trying and will continue to try live my life the way my four beautiful friends would have wanted me to, even though it's hard at times," she wrote.

"Today I think about all the girls' families and friends as it is going to be a particularly hard day."
