Young boy (7) in critical condition after being struck by car

A MOTORIST is assisting Gardai with their inquiries after a hit and run accident left a seven year old boy with critical injuries.
The 42 year old male motorist was arrested by Gardai after being traced to an address in east Cork just minutes after the collision which left the seven year old badly injured.
The accident happened shortly after 1pm when the boy was playing with friends near his home at Ballymacoda in east Cork.
The boy was injured just off the main street of the village as a group of youngsters enjoyed the glorious sunshine.
He suffered multiple injuries in the collision and, after being treated at the scene by paramedics, was rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH).
He is described as being in a critical condition with head and torso injuries.
The boy’s father raced to the scene and accompanied his son by ambulance to hospital.
The vehicle involved in the incident failed to stop and left the scene.
However, it was traced by gardai thanks to a number of eye-witness descriptions.
It is understood that part of the car’s front grill was also found at the accident scene.
The male driver was later arrested and questioned at Midleton Garda Station about the incident under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardai appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident or the movements of the vehicle involved before and after the collision to contact Midleton Garda Station on (021) 4621550.
The motorist is expected to be released without charge with a file to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
