Woman saved from quicksand

A YOUNG woman found herself up to her neck in it when she was rescued after getting stuck in a pit of quicksand in Cork yesterday.

Fire brigade and lifeboat services rushed to the scene of the incident at Monkstown Castle, close to the River Lee, and freed the woman in her 20s after being stuck for about half an hour. She became trapped in the quicksand when she ran after her dog along the shore.

Despite dropping down to her neck in the substance, she escaped uninjured.
