Firefighters have rescued an elderly woman from a house fire in Belfast

An elderly woman has been rescued from a house fire in Belfast.

The blaze at a property on Brooke Drive in the Suffolk area of west Belfast broke out just after 2am on Wednesday.

Three fire appliances were called to the scene and crews found the fire well alight on the first floor of the mid-terrace dwelling.

Two men managed to escape but a woman in her 70s had to be rescued by firefighters using a ladder.

All three people were taken to hospital by ambulance.

A spokeswoman for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said an investigation had been launched to try to determine the cause of the fire.
