Woman killed by lorry while crossing road

ROADS near a major hospital were closed yesterday after a pedestrian was killed following an accident involving a lorry.

The Crumlin Road outside Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Dublin was closed to both directions for several hours following the fatal accident.

A woman in her 40s, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was hit by a lorry while crossing Drimnagh Road near the hospital at about 1pm.

Meanwhile, two gardai and a motorist were brought to hospital last night following a head-on collision. The accident, involving a garda car and a van, happened on the Old Cork Road on the outskirts of Limerick city.
