Woman in her 50s dies following road accident this afternoon

A woman in her 50s has died following a road accident in Co Sligo this afternoon.

The woman, who was a passenger on a motorcycle, was seriously injured when it collided with a car on the N16 (Sligo to Manorhamilton road) near Drumkinsellagh, Co Sligo.

She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Her body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Sligo.

The driver of the motor cycle, a male in his 50s, was also taken to hospital.

Gardai say his condition is understood to be serious.

The occupants of the car were uninjured.

A garda spokesperson said: “Garda forensic collision investigators are at the scene. The road is closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. The local coroner has been notified.”
