Woman hit by SUV at festival gets €50,000

A YOUNG woman whose leg was injured when an SUV struck her during a music festival has been awarded €50,000 in High Court damages.

Emer O'Carroll, from Tamarisk Park, Tallaght, Dublin, sued concert organisers MCD Productions, along with the owners and hirers of the SUV, which hit her at the Oxegen Music Festival in Punchestown, Kildare, in 2006.

MCD, whose employee or agent was driving the vehicle, admitted liability and the case was before the court for assessment of damages only.

The court heard she was walking along a pedestrian pathway among a large crowd of people at the festival on July 9, 2006, when a wheel of the vehicle went over her left foot, injuring her just above the ankle. She had to have an operation in which a plate and screws were inserted in her leg and she also had to wear a plastic boot while it healed.
