A MIDDLE-AGED woman has become the fourth suspect to be arrested over an arson attack in which a five-year-old girl died.

The woman, in her 50s, is being questioned at Boyle Garda Station, Co Roscommon, where a man in his 30s is also being held.

Mari Connolly died after a fire broke out in her father Richard's house on October 3. Her sisters jumped to safety from a roof at the back of the property.

The woman has been detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

Mari was found dead in an upstairs bedroom after the blaze ripped through the terraced home in the middle of the night.

Her father had been looking after her and her two sisters, Lauren, eight, and Naomi, six, who survived the fire.
