Woman found dead after house blaze

Gardai are investigating the cause of a house fire in Cork

A 36-year-old woman has been found dead after a house fire.

The woman's body was discovered in the property on Pembroke Crescent, Passage West, Cork, at 1.30am on Sunday.

It is understood the fire destroyed the upstairs area of the two-storey semi-detached house, including the front bedroom where the woman's body was found.

Neighbours raised the alarm and emergency crews reported that some locals attempted to get into the home and rescue the woman, but were beaten back by flames and smoke.

The State Pathologist office's was notified to carry out a post-mortem examination on the woman's body.

Gardai are investigating the cause of the fire.

The house was also preserved for a technical examination to determine how the blaze may have started.
