Woman dies in head-on collision

Eimear Ni Bhraonain

A woman was killed yesterday after the car she was driving was involved in a head-on crash with a tractor.

The death brings to 42 the number of people killed on the roads so far this year.

The victim, Patricia Bray (49), of Killballygorman, Co Tipperary, was on her own in her car when it collided with a tractor between Clonmel and Ardfinnan village, near to where she lived, shortly after midday.

She is survived by her husband Dan Bray.

The fatality came a few hours after 20 vehicles were involved in a massive motorway pile-up on one of the country's busiest roads.

No one was killed in the series of crashes on the M7 near Portlaoise, Co Laois, which occurred at 8am after a lorry rear-ended another truck parked in the lay-by of the motorway in heavy fog.
