Woman dies after being hit by train

HUNDREDS of commuters had their travel plans disrupted following a fatal incident when a woman was struck by a train.

The tragic incident happened on the rail line between Adamstown and Hazelhatch at 12.20am in the early hours of Sunday morning. The woman was struck by an out-of-service commuter train heading back to Heuston Station. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the woman was declared dead.

The line was closed and passengers were ferried by bus transfers to the city, while gardai conducted their investigation. Services affected included the Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway, Westport and Waterford routes. The line opened again just before 1pm yesterday.
