A 90-year-old woman died in the early hours of this morning at the Mater Hospital in Dublin in the latest road fatality of the year.
A collision occurred at approximately 6.35pm between a car and the woman pedestrian on Crawford Avenue with the junction on Iona Road.
The pensioner was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to the Mater hospital where she later passed away in the early hours of this morning.
The driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was uninjured in the collision.
According to the gardai, the road was closed for a forensic collision examination but re-opened in the early hours of this morning.
The gardai are appealing for witness or anyone who may have information to contact them.
The woman was the 155th death on Irish roads this year, and was the 24th pedestrian to lose their life.
