Woman (25) dies after car strikes wall 'in extremely foggy conditions'

Gardaí believe extreme weather conditions may have contributed to a fatal road accident in which a young woman critically injured.

The 25-year-old was involved in a single-vehicle collision on Thursday night when her car struck a wall.

She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition with injuries described as "catastrophic".

The young woman lost her fight for life on Friday afternoon.

She has been named locally as Rachel Hennessy.

Gardaí in Tramore, Waterford are now appealing for witnesses.

The incident occurred at approximately 9.30pm on December 8 at Five Cross Roads near the village of Stradbally in Waterford.

She was the only person in the vehicle.

The road has since been reopened following an examination of the scene by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
