Winning pictures are timeless
A STUDENT who took a heart-warming picture of her mother playing with her niece said yesterday she was "surprised" at winning a national photographic competition.
Joanne Dunne from Tallaght took the picture of her mother Paula playing with her grand-daughter Ali Murphy as part of Age Action's Ireland's Positive Ageing competition.
"The photo of my mother and niece was taken in Tymon Park in Tallaght," the National College of Ireland student said. "I have a keen interest in photography but I cannot believe I have won."
The image will be used to publicise Positive Ageing Week, which runs from September 24 to October 2 next.
Age Action chief executive Robin Webster said the competition challenged negative perceptions of ageing.
"We hope that everyone who sees these photographs will realise that ageing is something to celebrate, and not something to fear," he said.
