Who's who in the vicious murder
- John McNamara -- The intended target of the McCarthy-Dundon gang. An associate of Philip Collopy, he lost an eye following a shooting in O'Malley Park, Southill, when he was attacked by two gang members. In 2006, he survived another gun attack when 20 bullets were sprayed at him outside his house. Still resides at the same home he lived in when Shane Geoghegan was murdered.
- April Collins -- Ger Dundon's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his three children. She now plans to marry Thomas O'Neill and is pregnant. She gave evidence that on the night before the murder, she was in the company of Barry Doyle, Nathan Killeen and John Dundon -- Ger's brother. She alleged John Dundon said he had everything sussed out and it was time to make a move. .
- John Dundon -- April Collins told the jury that John Dundon said he had the gun and a car and was ready to go. He also described what McNamara looked like."The gun is there. You kill him," he told Barry Doyle, according to Collins. Hours after the murder, Collins told the court that Dundon questioned Doyle in a car park and asked was he sure it was McNamara he shot.
- Philip Collopy -- A feared hitman and sworn enemy of the McCarthy-Dundon gang, he accidentally shot himself dead in March 2009 with his own gun when he thought the magazine was empty. As part of a sham truce, the 29-year-old met with a leading McCarthy-Dundon gang member and Doyle in Limerick before the murder. He later tipped McNamara off that an attack was imminent.
