Who's who in the Office of the State Pathologist

Prof Marie Cassidy, State Pathologist
Prof Cassidy has worked as a forensic pathologist since 1985 and was appointed Deputy State Pathologist in 1998. She was promoted to the chief position within the office in early 2004. Has performed six post-mortems in cases of violent deaths this year.
Jan 7: Christy Daly (47) – Body discovered in a drain in Clara, Co Offaly after being shot and dumped for up 10 days prior to discovery.
Jan 8: Thomas Horan (63) – Beaten to death after inviting his killer into his home at a senior citizen's apartment block in Ringsend, in Dublin's south inner city.*
Jan 10: Michael O'Dwyer (25) – Fatally stabbed in the chest after a row broke out at an apartment in Tramore, Co Waterford.
Jan 11: Vincent Maher (29) – The father-of-one was stabbed and killed following a party in his home in Finglas, on the north side of Dublin.
Jan 12: Tom O'Gorman (39) – Journalist/Researcher killed and mutilated at his home in Castleknock, Dublin.
Feb 17: Thomas 'Toddy' Dooley (64) – Died after sustaining serious injuries to the head and upper body in his home in Edenderry, Co Offaly.
Dr Michael Curtis, Deputy State Pathologist
Appointed Deputy State Pathologist in
2004 having previously held the position of the North's assistant state pathologist. He replaced the role vacated by Prof Cassidy. Has performed six post-mortems in cases of violent deaths this year following Dr Jaber's departure.
Jan 1: Wayne McQuillan (30) – Stabbed to death at a house in Drogheda, Co Louth.
Jan 19: Michael Devoy (41) – Body discovered in south county Dublin, with gunshot wounds to the head, by garda detectives as killers were attempting to dump it in a ditch.
Feb 8: Cathal Sweeney (62) – Assaulted at a flat in Terenure, Dublin.
Feb 14: James Talbot (46) – Gunned down in front of his wife and children in his home in Lucan, Co Dublin.
Feb 16: Sonia Blount (31) – Body of the young mother was found strangled to death in a hotel room in Tallaght, Co Dublin.
Dr Margaret Bolster, Assistant State Pathologist
Provides assistance on a part-time basis dealing with cases typically in the south of the country. She has taken over on-call duties according
to the Department of Justice, following Dr Jaber's departure, and has carried out one post-mortem in 2014.
February 15: Alexander Karpov (26) — Latvian national died at a house in Portarlington, Co Laois, where he had been watching the Winter Olympics.
