What’s the first place a tourist visits when they land in Dublin? Temple Bar goers may be sorely disappointed
In a list of the top ten disappointing destinations in the world, Dublin’s Temple Bar has a secure and embarrassingly prominent spot.
According to the Huffington Post, the ‘popular’ tourist haunt has been established as one of the locations to avoid “at all costs” when visiting the Irish capital.
Despite a “great” report of the city of Dublin itself, Temple Bar has been described as “a prime example of the rampant fleecing of drunken tourists”.
Tired of the ‘Irish culture equals pub’ stereotype, the list despairs of the area’s “authentic” bars which are little more than “overpriced tourist traps”.
The only visitors that would enjoy a visit to the cobble-stoned stretch, it reports, are those “competing to see how drunk they can get”.
Thankfully, the website has not been as harsh in its review of the rest of the capital as a drinking hole “literally anywhere else in Dublin” offers a more favourable experience.
Temple Bar is not alone in its fleecing. Nine other destinations to make the humiliating list are: Gibraltar; Niagara Falls, New York; Hollywood, California; Nassau, Bahamas; Liberty Island, New York; Frankfurt, Germany; Walt Disney World, Florida; Casablanca, Morocco and Las Vegas, Nevada.
