Weekend Lotto to hit €14m mark

SATURDAY'S lotto jackpot is heading for a whopping €14m after no one won the top prize in last night's mid-week draw. The winning numbers for the jackpot worth €12.8m were 1, 2, 6, 14, 31, 42 and bonus 37.

There were also no winners of the top prizes in both the Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 draws. The Plus 1 numbers were 6, 18, 21, 26, 28, 29 and bonus 34. The Plus 2 numbers were 1, 28, 30, 37, 39, 44 and bonus 4.

Man is found collapsed in cell

A MAN was fighting for his life last night after he was found unconscious in a cell while in garda custody.

The man, who is understood to be in his mid-40s, was removed to Kerry General Hospital from Tralee garda station at around 7.20am yesterday. He was later transferred to Cork University Hospital where his condition was described as "serious".

Youths stumble on human skeleton

FORENSIC tests are expected to be carried out on a human skeleton found near an electricity pylon yesterday afternoon.

The grim find was made by a group of local youths, who had been playing football nearby in Tolka Valley Park in Finglas, west Dublin. Initial inquiries indicate the remains are those of a person who has been dead for between five and 10 years.

Volunteer drowns in hunt for teen

THE body of a man in his 60s was recovered from a river in north Mayo yesterday. Navy divers found the body in the River Moy in Ballina as they searched for a 19-year-old youth who has been missing from the area since Sunday, March 13.

It is understood the dead man had actually been helping as a local volunteer in the search. His death is being treated as accidental and gardai said they had received no reports that he was missing.
