THIS is Bishop John Magee, who has been in hiding since the publication of the Cloyne Report, at the moment when he was confronted by the Sunday Independent.
Last Thursday, we tracked the missing bishop down to Mitchelstown, Co Cork. He had been in hiding since he was slated in the report on child sex abuse in his diocese.
But last week, he was back in the north Cork house he fled when the report was published. Dismissing reports that he had gone to Rome or the US, Dr Magee smiled and said: "No, I wasn't there."
The bishop refused to be interviewed but, through his brother, he said that he was preparing a statement on the failures outlined in the Cloyne Report.
He is staying with friends this weekend but is expected back in Mitchelstown over the next few days.
