ONE of the country's regional airports was recently under the control of the Army – but it was all part of training.
Newly inducted personnel from the Defence Forces completed a five day training exercise at Waterford Airport last week.
A spokesperson for the Defence Forces said that the training for "young leaders" within the Army is geared towards "preparing them for future deployment to troubled hot-spots around the globe".
In this scenario, the soldiers had to secure the building for the safe passage of a VIP, and the situation was based upon a peace support scenario in an overseas environment.
