No place can pull on the heartstrings more for a good old wedding proposal then Dublin airport arrivals.

Hugh Booth (51) had a ring and a Bruno Mars song at the ready for his surprise proposal to his partner of five years, Kate (52).

His daughter Áine told Independent.ie that the family, including her and her two brothers, her sister and her brother’s girlfriend travelled to Dublin Airport from their home in Belfast for the big day.

“He rang me up on the Tuesday and said to me, ‘Áine, I’m going to ask Kate to marry me’.

“Then I asked how and he told me he was going to wait in arrivals for her getting off her flight,” Áine said.

“I laughed and told him he was talking rubbish.

“We waited three hours for her, my dad couldn’t sit down once!”.

Áine and her sister played the role of DJ as Kate came out of arrivals… and the rest is history.

“My daddy held Kate’s hands and said, ‘I’ve never met a more beautiful and caring woman like you, I can’t explain how much I love you’.

“Then when the song got to the part, ‘I think I wanna marry you’, he got down on one knee and asked Kate to be his wife.”
