Waste firm unveils charge for recycling

GREYHOUND Recycling has introduced controversial new charges for recycled household rubbish which come into effect from today.

From now on, customers in Dublin must purchase Greyhound-branded recycling bags at a cost of €9 for six bags.

Previously there had been no charge for recycling waste, in an effort to encourage customers to recycle as much as possible.

However, the private waste company has blamed "the high cost of distribution" of recycling bags and "the sharp fall in the market value of recyclables" as the reasons for the new charge.

The charge will only affect customers who use recycling bags and not those who use green bins.
